Biography
Virgo Veldi studied at the Georg Ots Music School from 1984 - 1988. He graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 1993 with the MA degree cum laude. In 2004 he obtained his MA degree from Sibelius Academy. Virgo Veldi was won 3rd prize in the Wooden Instrument Player - Competition in Tallinn (1990), he took part in the International Saxophone Competition in Belgium (1994) and won 1st prize. In 1996 he won the public award in the Estonian young musicians competition "Con Brio". He has worked as a saxophone teacher at the Georg Ots Music School and at the Sibelius Lukio in Helsinki. Since 2001 he has taught the saxophone at the EAMT. He has performed as a soloist with most Estonian orchestras and takes part in the Nyyd Ensemble projects. Since 1999 Virgo Veldi has been the musical director of the saxophone quartet Saxest.
